Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a fuel cell having long cycle-life, which is superior in its efficiency and durability, by using Ba-Ce-O mixed ionic conductive oxide having proton conductivity and oxide ionic conductivity for a solid electrolyte.
CONSTITUTION: A material such as perovskite oxide, the composition formula of which is BaCe1-xGdxO3-α (1>x>0, 1.5>α>0), is used for a solid electrolyte. In this way, the durability and cycle life of a fuel cell is improved because this fuel cell can be operated efficiently at temperature below 850°C and non- ceramic materials such as metals can be used as constitutive materials for such as an air electrode and a fuel electrode of the fuel cell main body, and as peripheral materials and structural materials for such as a bipolar plate, an interconnector and a manifold. It is desirable that the values of x in the composition formula are 0.23-0.16, and the range of the operation temperature is 650-850°C.
