To generate specified wavelength of light stably extending for a long period by equipping a light source with one piece or plural pieces of semiconductor light emitting elements arranged in contact with a heat conductive member for cooling, a cooling member for cooling the heat conductive member, and a transparent airtight container to enclose the semiconductor light emitting elements.
Each semiconductor laser chip is cooled by cooling material circulating within a cooling water path 4 provided inside a heat conductive material 3. This cooling prevents a semiconductor from running away by heat and breaking due to the temperature rise, or luminous wavelength from changing. Furthermore, a glass container 5 covering a semiconductor laser chip 1 is charged with inert gas, which prevents the stoppage of laser oscillation resulting from the seizure caused by the dust adhering to the luminous end of a semiconductor laser chip 1 and the operation trouble resulting from the oxidation of the surface caused by the adhesion of moisture within the air.
