Title:
固体高分子電解質膜及びその製造方法並びに燃料電池
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP4390047
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

To provide a solid polymer electrolyte membrane that is obtained through a radiation-induced graft polymerization process, and has high proton conductivity, and suppresses its degradation caused by graftization, and to provide a forming method therefor, and a fuel cell using the electrolyte membrane.

A solid polymer electrolyte membrane is formed by the co-graft polymerization of styrene or its dielectric and an ester compound formed of a higher alcohol and (metha) acrylic acid on a fluororesin irradiated by radiation. A fuel cell has a solid polymer electrolyte membrane formed between a fuel pole and an air pole. The solid polymer electrolyte membrane has high ionic conductance and a low crossover characteristic for a methanol. It has a low in glass transition point, and is capable of suppressing the degradation caused by graftization, causes little crack generation. Further it is suitable for an electrolyte membrane for use in a fuel cell, particularly for an electrolyte membrane for use in a direct methanol fuel cell. By the use of the solid polymer electrolyte membrane, there is little crossover of methanol, and the fuel cell with high performance can be obtained.
