To produce a high performance solid polymer electrolytic membrane having both high proton conductivity and excellent oxidation resistance by a radiation graft polymerization method, and to provide a high performance fuel battery equipped with the solid polymer electrolytic membrane.
This method for producing the solid polymer electrolytic membrane comprises irradiating a thin membrane comprising a fluororesin with radiations, cografting vinylidene fluoride and a fluoromonomer having a sulfonic acid precursor group capable of being converted into a sulfonic group to the thin membrane, and then converting the sulfonic acid precursor groups into the sulfonic groups. The solid polymer electrolytic membrane is disposed between a fuel electrode and an air electrode to form a fuel battery.
