To provide a solid reducing furnace capable of efficiently radiating microwaves to the inside of the solid reducing furnace.
In the solid reducing furnace, a briquette is formed by mixing iron oxide raw material with reducing material and is heated by radiation heat from a burner and a furnace wall to manufacture reduced iron. The solid reducing furnace includes a burner heating area for heating the briquette by utilizing radiation heat from the burner and the furnace wall, and a microwave heating area for heating the briquette with the microwave irradiated to the briquette. The microwave heating area includes one or a plurality of waveguides inserted into the solid reducing furnace for introducing microwaves to heat the briquette. The height of a ceiling of the solid reducing furnace in the microwave heating area is lower than the height of the ceiling of the solid reducing furnace in the burner heating area.
