PURPOSE: To improve the sensitivity of a sensor and to quicken the output by replacing two picture elements whose gravity center is set to a picture element used by MUSE into an area by 4 picture elements of a solid-state image pickup element, having the number of vertical output lines and increasing the aperture area of each picture element by the reduction.
CONSTITUTION: A vertical shift register 4 is subject to 2:1 interlace drive, then an output of out1' is as shown in figure. The output is subject to sample-and- hold processing and a signal of picture elements of P'11, P'15, P31', P'35 is read in a 1st field. Similarly, a signal of picture elements of P'22, P'26, P'42, P'46 is read in a 2nd field, a signal of picture elements of P'13, P'17, P'33, P'37 is read in a 3rd field, and a signal of picture elements of P'24, P'28, P'44, P'48 is read in a 4th field. A signal corresponding to the MUSE system is obtained by resetting a signal of a sensor section for each field.
