PURPOSE: To obtain an image sensor having a good resolution and sensitivity by placing an optical deflecting system on a photodetective surface and externally giving a signal to the optical deflecting system in a prescribed period to guide the light forming an image on a part except for a photodetector area to the photodetector area.

CONSTITUTION: An optical deflecting layer 13 disposed in front of a photodetective surface of an image sensor 11, an electrode 14 disposed on both surfaces thereof and having a transmitting property, a timing circuit 15 supplying an external signal thereto, and a terminal 6 giving a reading and scanning signal to the image sensor 11 and supplying a synchronous signal to the timing circuit 15 are provided. Thus, from a state I in which incident rays of light L shown by broken line arrows strike against a part having no sense to the light, the rays of light L are refracted as shown by alternate long and short dash line arrows, the lights which are not received by a photodetector part 12 in the state I can be received (state II).
