PURPOSE: To prevent the reduction of image resolution and an occurrence of color mixture, by separating the photoconductive films laminated at the upper part of the picture element electrode for each picture element and providing a gap between the photoconductive films.
CONSTITUTION: The photoconductive thin films 15-1, 15-2 and 15-3 are formed separately from each other like the picture element electrodes 6-1, 6-2 and 6-3. Then a transparent electrode 8' is formed with no separation over the photoconductive thin films. The photoconductive thin film is separated for each picture element by means of a photoetching technique, etc. with a gap secured between these films. As a result, the optical charge 16 generated from the film 15-2, for example, cannot flow into the electrodes 6-1 and 6-3 which are contiguous to each other, in the horizontal direction, since the photoconductive thin film is separated for each picture element both in the horizontal and vertical directions. It is also impossible for the charge 16 to flow into the picture element electrodes adjacent to each other, in the vertical direction.
