A solid state imaging device includes an imaging unit having a plurality of pixels arrayed in rows and columns, and a control unit for reading out from the imaging unit pixel values based on an exposure time for each row, as information for use for imaging control. The control unit changes the exposure time for each row, by resetting pixel values power stored in the pixels for each row. According to the brightness of a subject, the control unit changes the row to read out the pixel values from the imaging unit. The imaging control includes the control of autofocus, the control of automatic exposure and the control of automatic white balance. The pixel values based on the exposure time for each row and read out from the imaging unit are read out from the imaging unit, as information to calculate evaluation values in the control of autofocus, the control of automatic exposure and the control of automatic white balance.
