To provide a solid-state scanning type optical writing device which can have excellent gradation reproducibility by preventing output light quantities at the same gradation from being different without reference to the number of optical shutter elements which are driven at the same time.
The solid-state scanning type optical writing device has a plurality of optical shutter elements, having electrooptic effect, arranged in a horizontal scanning direction, and modulates light emitted from an LED by turning ON/OFF the optical shutter elements to form an image on a photoreceptor. The LED as a light source is controlled to turn ON right after a predetermined gradation L after the optical shutters are turned ON. Further, a pulse signal controlling gradations may be delayed for each specified number of blocks of optical shutter elements.
