Title:
SOLID THERMOSETTING RESOL RESIN, PRODUCTION AND USE THEREOF
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0748426
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the high-molecular weight resin excellent in heat resistance, shelf stability and mechanical performance, useful for prepregs, etc., by reaction between a specific phenol aralkyl resin and an aldehyde in the presence of a basic catalyst.

CONSTITUTION: The resin 10-23.4wt.% in oxygen content can be obtained by reaction in the presence of a basic catalyst such as lithium hydroxide between (A) a phenol aralkyl resin of formula II (n is 0-100) prepared by reaction between (1) phenol and (2) p-xylylene halide or p-xylylene alcohol derivative of formula I (R1 is halogen, hydroxyl or 1-4C lower alkoxy) pref. at the molar ratio of (1.3-1.7):1 and (B) an aldehyde such as formalin. A thermosetting resin composition can be obtained using this resin and an inorganic and/or organic filler(s) as the essential components.
