Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a soln. for disinfection and preservation which has compatibility with many types of contact lenses, maintains a high level of antimicrobial activity and low toxicity to the tissues of the eyes and does not bond or thicken the disinfectant to the lens surfaces.
CONSTITUTION: This soln. for disinfection and preservation contains an antimicrobially effective amt. of the biguanide of the formula ((n) is 1 to 500) or its salts in combination with a buffer agent. The concn. of the biguanide is 0.000001 to 0.0003 wt.%. All of low-mol.wt. oligomers of 4 to 7 in average of (n) high-mol.wt. long-chain polymers up to a mol.wt. of 100,000 and individual monomers of 1 in (n) are used for the biguanide described above, for which the aq. salt (e.g.; hydrochloride) of the biguanide of 2 to 12 in average and more particularly 3 to 8 in the value of (n) is more preferable. The buffer agent described above is preferably a boric acid buffer agent when surfactants are not included in the soln. for disinfection and preservation. Ordinary buffer agents are usable when the buffer agent is combined with a metal ion sealing agent and surfactant.
