PURPOSE: To obtain a sound absorbing device having ENC fluid compsns. which have a EA effect and are variable in characteristic vibration frequencies by the voltage to be impressed by providing this device with sound absorbing boxes providing with specific sound absorbing materials and a voltage impressing means.
CONSTITUTION: This sound absorbing device 31 is composed of a sound absorbing device body 32 and a variable power source (voltage impressing means) connected to this sound absorbing device body 32. The sound absorbing device body 32 consists of plural sound absorbing boxes 34. The respective sound absorbing boxes 34 are aligned vertically and horizontally and are assembled. The sound absorbing materials 36 having an electrosensitive (ENC) fluid compsns. for controlling sound wave absorption on the inside surfaces of boxes 35 are installed in these sound absorbing boxes 34. Further, the ENC fluid compsns. are formed by uniformly dispersing the electric field arranging type (EA) particles which are solid particles into electrically insulatable media. The voltage of the prescribed value is impressed to the ENC fluid compsns. constituting the sound absorbing materials 36 from the voltage impressing means 13 when the frequency of the sound of the specific frequency generated in a room fluctuates.
