Abstract:
To improve the compression rate of multichannel sound signals.
In a mix-and-matrix circuit, PCM data of six channels is separately adjusted and mixed together, correlation between channels is found in each of correlation circuits 1-1 to 1-n based on a fixed formula, a predicted remainder in each channel is computed in each of predicting circuits 15 based on data of the correlation, and the data for the minimum one of the predicted remainders is selected by a predictor-selecting signal generator 17a, supplied through a packing circuit 18 to a formatting circuit 19, and formatted there into a fixed bit stream.
