PURPOSE: To provide a soundproof material capable of more effectively suppressing noises of different frequency levels even if many noise sources exist and these noises are generated.
CONSTITUTION: The soundproof material 1 is mounted on the engine room side surface of a hood panel 5. The soundproof material 1 has a pulverized rubber layer 2 consisting of pulverized rubber having various sizes, shapes and kinds and a coating layer 3 for coating the pulverized rubber layer 2. The coating layer 3 is composed of an upper layer 3a and lower layer 3b consisting of films and the lower layer 3b is provided with plural small through-holes 6. The noises are individually and locally absorbed by the many pieces of the granular pulverized rubber themselves disposed in the soundproof material 1 and the gaps among the pieces of the pulverized rubber. Since the lower layer 3b of the coating layer 3 is provided with the through-holes 6, the waves of incident noise waves are liable to be introduced through the through-holes 6 into the inside of the pulverized rubber layer 2, by which the sound absorption effect by the pulverized rubber is more surely obtd.
