To provide spacers for a liquid crystal display element with which the liquid crystal display element capable of obtaining homogeneous and good images are producible without the occurrence of the abnormal alignment of liquid crystals around the spacers for the liquid crystal display element and the liquid crystal display element formed by using the same.
The polymer particulates of the spacers 9 for the liquid crystal display element consisting of these polymer particulates are obtd. by dispersing radical polymerizable monomers into an aq. dispersion system and polymerizing the dispersion. The spacers 9 for the liquid crystal display element formed by using an ethylenic unsatd. compd. having surface-active ability at the time of dispersion of the particlates and two sheets of glass substrates 2, 5 arranged with alignment layers 4, 7 and transparent electrodes 3, 6 are disposed to face each other via the spacers 9 for the liquid crystal display element and liquid crystals are sealed between these glass substrates 2 and 5.
