PURPOSE: To produce a powerful torch in a main chamber by arranging, in a sub-chamber nozzle holes, producing torch in the main chamber, asymmetrically relative to the center axis of the sub-chamber, thereby producing a vertical swirl in a sub-chamber and injecting flame rapidly into the main chamber.
CONSTITUTION: Most of gas fuel is introduced through an intake port 4 and intake valves 5 to a main combustion chamber formed by a cylinder head 1, cylinder liner 2 and piston 3. A part of gas fuel is also introduced through a conduit 7 to a sub-combustion chamber 6 of small capacity. When suction of gas fuel is completed and compression is started, gas starts to flow through nozzle holes 8 of the sub-chamber 6. In this case, nozzle holes 8, 8' of the sub- chamber 6 are positioned asymmetrically relative to the center line C, thus generating vertical swirl 6a. Flame generated after igniting is taken on the vertical swirl 6a and propagated rapidly near the nozzle holes 8. A powerful flame torch jet is thus produced in the main chamber.
