Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spark-ignition gasoline engine that can perform proper compression self-ignition combustion by supplying ignition energy to a sufficiently atomized fuel.SOLUTION: An injector-housing part 62 is formed at the central part in the radial direction of the ceiling 60 of a combustion chamber, the injector-housing part being dented to the direction distant from the crest surface of a piston 5. A recessed cavity 40 is formed at the central part in the radial direction of the crest surface of the piston 5, the cavity being dented to the direction distant from the ceiling 60 of the combustion chamber. The open periphery 40e of the cavity 40 is located outer in the radial direction than the open periphery 62b of the injector-housing part 62. The ignition point SI of an ignition plug 20 is located outer in the radial direction than the open periphery 62b of the injector-housing part 62 and inner in the radial direction than the open periphery 40e of the cavity 40. An ignition assist is executed late in the compression step.
