Abstract:

To provide a spark ignition type internal combustion engine securing engine output, while achieving a high geometric compression ratio.

In the spark ignition type internal combustion engine, the geometric compression ratio of an engine body is set to 14 or more. A separated distance between an upper surface 3a of a piston 3 at a top dead center and lower surfaces 8a, 8a of closed intake valves 8, 8, and a separated distance between the upper surface 3a of the piston 3 at the top dead center and lower surfaces 9a, 9a of closed exhaust valves 9, 9, are respectively set to 5 mm or longer. A stroke S of the piston 3 is set to be a length satisfying the expression of S≤0.997×B+18.2, when a bore diameter of a cylinder C is B.
