Abstract:
To suppress the generation of sag noise caused by capacitance and resistance between a housing and an opposed portion of an insulator, and to enable an ion current to be detected effectively.
A spark plug 14 is mainly composed of a metal housing 41, an insulator 42, electrode members (a central electrode 43, an earth electrode 44), a resistor 45 and a stem 46. The middle stage 42b of the insulator 42 is opposed to the housing 41 interposing a micro clearance CL, and an air gap in the opposed part is hermetically maintained by metal packings 51, 52. The clearance CL between the housing 41 and the middle stage 42b of the insulator 42 is set to 0.2 mm or so in average.
