To provide a simpler, more general and more correct method for analyzing a mixture of aromatic compounds by an ultraviolet spectral analysis method.
The chromatographic analysis method includes steps of (a) first allowing a mixture of hydrocarbon oil and a carrier phase to pass in contact with first and second chromatography stationary phases over a predetermined time period and making the stationary phases hold hydrocarbon oil components. Then, (b) a mobile phase of weak solvent having dissolution parameters of 7.0 to 7.8 cal0.5/cm1.5 is allowed to pass in contact with the first and second stationary phases over a second time period sufficient to elute a saturated compound and a mono-aromatic compound. Thereafter, (c) the weak solvent is successively allowed to pass through the second stationary phase over a third time period sufficient to substantially complete elution of the mono-aromatic compound. Then, (d) the solvent which passed through the first and second phases is recovered. Thereafter (e) the solvent recovered in the above step (a) is monitored for detecting at least saturated compounds, mono-aromatic compounds and aromatic compound of bicyclic or higher.
