The speed change control device of an automatic transmission for transmitting a torque input thereto from a drive source to a drive wheel thereof while changing to a predetermined speed among a plurality of speeds, includes: a speed control section for changing speeds, when a speed change instruction has been output from a speed before change to a speed after change, by lowering the engaging pressure of a releasing side frictional element where the speed before change has been established and increasing the engaging pressure of an engaging side frictional element where the speed after change is to be established; a releasing side engaging pressure correction section for carrying out correction, while the speed control unit changes speeds, to increase the engaging pressure of the releasing side frictional element when the opening degree of the accelerator pedal is increased; and an inhibiting section for inhibiting, when the engaging pressure of the releasing side frictional element is lower than a predetermined value, the releasing side engaging pressure correction section from carrying out the correction for increase.
