To provide a spent cleaning agent treating method capable of efficiently decomposing, at a high treatment speed and without producing explosive gas, a spent cleaning agent produced during cleaning of an organic solvent, used for solvent extraction of a nuclear fuel substance in reprocessing steps, with a chlorine-free cleaning agent having hydrazine and compounds thereof as main components.
This spent cleaning agent with hydrazine and compounds thereof as main components used for cleaning an organic solvent and discharged from a solvent extracting process is chemically decomposed by using a platinum group catalyst such as a Pt catalyst 3 and hydrogen peroxide filled in a column 2. A feed amount of the hydrogen peroxide is an equivalent of two to five times the amount of all the hydrazine in the spent cleaning agent, a spent cleaning agent supply flow rate/catalyst filling capacity is within a range of 3 to 30h-1, and the spent cleaning agent is treated at a temperature of 50 to 65°C.
