To provide an element capable of detecting magnetic wall movement through electric resistance, and to make compatible the magnetic wall movement of a high speed and low current and thermal stability of a recorded magnetic wall.

The element includes a magnetic wall moving layer having a magnetic wall; and a first magnetic layer group, a second magnetic layer group, and a third magnetic layer group each having a ferromagnetic layer. The respective magnetic layer groups are disposed in the foregoing order on the same face of the magnetic wall moving layer. Detection of the position of the magnetic wall of the magnetic wall moving layer is made, by conducting electrons between the first magnetic layer group and the third magnetic layer group to travel the magnetic wall of the magnetic wall moving layer, and measuring electric resistances between the second magnetic layer group and the third magnetic layer group or between the second magnetic layer group and the first magnetic layer group. It is preferable to have antiferromagnetic coupling between the magnetic wall moving layer and the first magnetic layer group, and to have antiferromagnetic coupling or ferromagnetic coupling between the magnetic wall moving layer and the third magnetic layer group.
