To provide a compact following mechanism for moving a spindle following a roll stand so as to effectively absorb vibration or impact receiving from outside in a shifting rolling mill in which the spindle at a drive motor side and the coupling at a mill roll side are not fixed by a pin or the like.

The following mechanism includes the frames 16(14) which are provided integrally with the roll stand and are disposed on both sides of the spindle, and the elastic bodies 15 which are fixed to the spindle opposed to the frames 16 (14). The spindle can move following the roll stand by the frames 16 (14) pressing the elastic bodies 15 when shifting the roll stand.
