Title:
SPINDLE HAVING MAGNETIC AND FLUID BEARINGS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2002291199
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide a spindle motor having magnetic and fluid bearings.

The spindle motor used in precision equipment such as a hard disk drive includes a stationary sub-assembly, and a rotary sub-assembly that can move to the stationary sub-assembly to support a magnetic disk. Also, the spindle motor has an integral bearing system having fluid journal bearing for generating a desired radial load, and the magnetic bearing for reducing friction resistance while the spindle motor is started, stopped, and operated. During the operation of the spindle motor, the magnetic bearing is fully used, thus suspending the rotary sub-assembly by the stationary sub-assembly. The spindle motor where the fluid journal bearing is integrated with the magnetic bearing can speedily and accurately operate, increase the radial load and rigidity, and reduce the friction resistance, thus improving performance of the spindle motor for saving energy.
