To provide a spindle motor, in which contaminated particles such as grease spattered out of a bearing case are prevented from flowing outside a motor, even when a pumping function in caused by rotation of the spindle motor.

A spindle motor 1 has a stationary part 2 made up of a bracket 10, a shaft 11 and a stator 12, a rotor hub 21 with a rotor flange 30 for supporting a hard disk 4, a rotating part 3 having a rotor yoke 32 and a rotor magnet 33, and bearings 40 and 41 for joining the stationary part 2 and the rotating part 3. The bracket 10 has a recessed part 13 for storing the stator 12, and a bracket flange 14 elongated in a radial direction from the recessed part 13, while the bracket flange 14 has a head seek groove 15 on the upper face thereof. In addition, a gap 19 is formed around the recessed part 13 in a path from the bearings 40 and 41 to the outside through the recessed part 13 of the bracket 10 and the bracket flange 14.
