PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spinning machine and a spinning method capable of adjusting the length of a fiber bundle portion formed at a yarn end.SOLUTION: A spinning unit 2 comprises: a draft device 6 to draft a fiber bundle F; an air spinning device 7, which can move to a spinning position and a retreat position more distant from the draft device 6 than the spinning position, and injects a swirl air flow to a spinning chamber 73 at the spinning position to form a yarn Y by twisting a fiber bundle F drafted by the draft device 6; and an injector 14 to inject air to an area between the draft device 6 and the air spinning device 7. The injector 14 injects air after the air spinning device 7 starts to move from the spinning position to the retreat position.
