Abstract:
PURPOSE:To allow the use of the above optical fiber as a long-sized fiber sensor and distribution measurement by spirally forming a core having the refractive index higher than the refractive index of a clad in the eccentric position nearer the outer periphery of the clad in the longitudinal direction of the clad. CONSTITUTION:The core 2 is disposed in the eccentric position near the outer periphery of the clad 1 and is spirally formed in the longitudinal direction of the clad 1. This core 2 eventually exists in any position in the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber and exists near the outer periphery of the clad 1 in whichever position in the circumferential direction. Since the transmission loss of light increases surely in spite of contact of liquid and gas in any position of the outer periphery, the liquid and gas can be detected even if a coating 3 on the outer periphery of the clad is not removed over the entire periphery. The strength of the fiber is maintained, the use as a long-sized line sensor is possible. The detection not at one point but at plural points in the longitudinal direction (distribution measurement) is possible if the fiber is formed long.
