To obtain a new compound useful as an intermediate for production of a papulacandin compound and its analogue.
This compound is represented by formula I [P is H, an alkyl, an alkenyl or the like; X is SR1, N3 or the like; R1 is P or sugar part], e.g. a compound of formula II (Ac is acetyl). The compound of formula I is preferably obtained by condensing a compound of formula III (e.g. a compound of formula IV) with a compound of formula V (L is an eliminable group), e.g. in the presence of 1-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-3-ethylcarboxiimide hydroxide and N,N-dimethylaminopyridine in a solvent such as methylene chloride, treating the formed ester with an alkyllithium such as n-butyllithium in a solvent such as tetrahydrofuran and as necessary, returning all of the group P which may have been removed during the treatment.
