Abstract:
To provide a split cycle internal combustion engine.SOLUTION: A split cycle internal combustion engine 101 includes a combustion cylinder 126 accommodating a combustion piston, and a compression cylinder 104 accommodating a compression piston. The engine receives an indication of a parameter associated with a fluid associated with the combustion cylinder. If the indicated parameter is less than a target value for the parameter, then the engine causes the exhaust valve 134 to close before the combustion piston reaches its top dead center position (TDC) on the basis of the indicated parameter. If the indicated parameter is equal to or greater than the target value for the parameter, then the engine causes the exhaust valve of the combustion cylinder to close upon completion of a return stroke of the combustion piston as the combustion piston reaches its top dead center position (TDC).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
