PURPOSE: To prevent scattering of liquid droplets from a spray type absorption tower suitable for use as an exhaust gas desulfurizer by setting a porous plate at the gas downstream side in the upper part of the tower to partially remove scattered liquid droplets from gas bofore entering a demister.
CONSTITUTION: Exhaust gas is supplied to the absorption tower from the lower part and catalytically reacted with an absorbing soln. (a lime slurry or the like) sprayed from multistage spray nozzles 2, removing SO2 in the gas. Porous plate 5 is set at the upper part of nozzles 2, and part of the soln. is supplied from spray nozzle 2A through absorbing soln. line 4 to form holdup 6 on plate 5. Liquid droplets scattered from nozzles 2 join with the held-up absorbing soln., thereby reducing the amt. of droplets scattered at the inlet of demister 3. The scattered droplets are removed with demister 3, and clean gas is exhausted from the upper outlet of the tower.
