PURPOSE: To perform spread rolling without restricting the lower limit of the dimensions of a stock and its shape by rolling a metallic stock, supported by plural wire rods, bars, or bands bridged on a frame, in a state of intersecting the major axis of stock with the rolling direction.

CONSTITUTION: A metallic stock 1 is supported by a frame 4 on which plural wire rods, bars, or bands 5 are bridged, in a state of intersecting perpendicularly or slantly the major axis of material with the rolling direction 3, and the frame 4 on which the material 1 is mounted is advanced to the space between the rolling rolls 7, 7 by roll tables 6. Further, the length L of frame 4 is made to ≥ two times the pitch P of roll tables 6, and the diameter or thickness of wire rod, bar, or band is made to ≤0.5% of the diameter or thickness of material 1, and further its occupation rate in the roll contacting arcuate-surface is made to ≤40%. In this way, the spread rolling can be performed while preventing the material 1 from coming into contact with the roll tables 6 placed at the front and back of the rolling mill, and the seizure between the material 1 and the roll tables 6 is eliminated.
