PURPOSE: To provide a retention spring clip which has main and auxiliary retention fingers extending different lengths from a base, and which is formed from an integral stamped piece at reduced cost to enable an instrument module to be easily and quickly fitted into and removed from an instrument panel of a vehicle.

CONSTITUTION: This spring clip 10 has a base 20 and main and auxiliary retention fingers 40, 52 extending therefrom in cantilever fashion. The auxiliary retention fingers 52 are shorter than the main retention fingers 40 and therefore the ends 60, 58 of the retention fingers sequentially engage an instrument panel to retain and align an instrument module in the instrument panel. The auxiliary retention fingers 52 have a removal ramp 62 which is engageable by a removal tool inserted through the instrument module, and a portion 56 overlaying the main retention fingers 40, so that when the removal tool is inserted, the auxiliary retention fingers 52 retract and also retract the main retention fingers 40.
