Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide the subject new compound useful in the field of dye, polymer coloring material, dichroic pigment for liquid crystal, etc., photo-sensitive material for electrophotography such as electrophotographic printer, recording material for optical disk and a semiconductor laser application field such as near-infrared cut filter material.
CONSTITUTION: The squarylium compound of formula I [R1 and R2 are H, alkyl or alkoxy; (n) is 1 or 2; X is O or S; A is group of formula II (R3 and R4 are H, alkyl, alkoxy, OH, halogen or acylamino; R5 and R6 are alkyl) or formula III], e.g. the squarylium compound obtained by the reaction of the compound of formula IV with the compound of formula V. The compound of formula I is produced e.g. by reacting an N,N-alkylaniline or julolidine with 1,2-dichlorocyclobutene-3,4-dione to obtain a 1-chloro-2-aryl-squaric acid derivative, hydrolyzing the acid and reacting the obtained aryl-3,4-dione-cyclobutenol with N-methyl-2-arylbenzopyrylium salt.
