Title:
STABILIZATION OF SILOXANE-TERMINATED POLYMER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3827258
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize the Mooney viscosity of a siloxane-terminated polymer during desolventation by treating the polymer with a specified viscosity stabilizer in the presence of an inert solvent before it is brought into contact with water.
SOLUTION: Before a siloxane-terminated polymer having at least one hydrolyzable substituent at a siloxane terminal group is brought into contact with water, it is treated with a stabilizing amount of a viscosity stabilizer selected among acids, acyl halides, methanesulfonic acid, toluenesulfonic acid, sulfuryl chloride, thionyl chloride, phosgene, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, SOCl and SO2Cl2 in the presence of an inert solvent to stabilize its Mooney viscosity. The solvent which can be desirably used is an aliphatic hydrocarbon, especially hexane.
