Title:
STABLE AQUEOUS UNSATURATED QUATERNARY AMMONIUM SALT SOLUTION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2945356
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject aqueous solution stable at a room temperature and useful for producing a polymer as a flocculant for water treatment, by reacting an N,N-dimethylaminoethyl (meth)acrylate with a quaternarizing agent in the presence of specific metallic ion blocking agent(s).
SOLUTION: This aqueous solution of an unsaturated quaternary ammonium salt of formula II is obtained by reaction of an N,N-dimethylaminoethyl (meth) acrylate of formula I (R1 is H or methyl) with a quaternarizing agent of the formula R-X (R is methyl or benzyl; X is Cl, I, etc.) in the presence of at least one kind of stabilizer such as catechol and at least one kind of metallic ion blocking agent (e.g. diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid). This aqueous solution contains about 1-100ppm of the metallic ion blocking agent and about 20-1,200ppm of the stabilizer. The salt of formula II accounts for about 50-85wt.% of this aqueous solution.
