Stacking chairs C can be stacked as the seat portion 18 of one chair is rotated upward about a hinged portion 22 by longitudinal movement while running on the upper surface of the seat portion 18 of the chair behind. The seat portion 18 is hinged at its front to the tops of the front legs 3, 4 of a lower frame 2 and is connected to a flexible member 25 at its rear end in such a way that it can be placed almost horizontally, so that it is connected to a backrest portion 16 held against an upper frame 11. The lower frame 2 is made greater in its front crosssectional shape than in its rear cross-sectional shape. The seat portion 18 and the flexible member 25 are placed inside the upper frame 11 having armrest portions 12, 13. The rearedge-side lower surface 18a of the seat portion 18 is placed in a position higher than its frontedge-side upper surface 18b.
