To obtain the subject composition giving a stainproofing membrane excellent in solvent resistance, pollution resistance, processing resistance, etc., to a base material using a compound having a hydrocarbon-based water-repelling group by compounding an alkoxysilane compound containing a specific epoxy group.
This composition contains an epoxy-containing alkoxysilane compound (e.g. 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane) expressed by the formula: RSi(OR1)3 [R is a (non)substituted monovalent hydrocarbon containing an epoxy group; R1 is a (non)substituted alkyl]. The alkoxysilane compound preferably has a number average molecular weight of 200-500. In the objective composition, the above alkoxysilane compound is commonly used after diluted with a solvent. As the solvent, an alcoholic solvent is preferable. It is preferable that the composition is made photocurable by compounding a photocatalyst capable of opening an epoxy ring by the radiation of light since the resulting composition works advantageously on a base material such as a liquid crystal display panel which is not suitable for heat processing.
