To provide a device capable of smoothly and safely lifting/lowering a seat on a staircase while keeping it horizontal.
This self-propelled lifting/lowering seat device is driven by a motor 5 while being guided by tubular guide rails 1, 2 arranged in parallel above and below against the staircase grade. A rack 6 is installed on the lower face 1a of the upper guide rail 1, a guide roller 7 protruded from the back of the base 4 of a seat 3 is mounted on the upper face 1b, a drive pinion 9 protruded behind the base 4 is meshed with the rack 6, and a vertical-axis roller 11 kept in contact with the inside face 1c of the guide rail 1 is arranged at an interval with the guide roller 7 behind the base 4. A guide roller 12 protruded behind the base 4 is mounted on the upper face 2a of the lower guide rail 2, a guide roller 14 protruded from the back of the base 4 is kept in contact with the lower face 2b, and a protruded stripe 18 preventing the separation of the vertical-axis roller 11 due to the curved change of the upper guide rail 1 is provided on the inside face 1c of the upper guide rail 1.
