PURPOSE: To obtain a starch composition for coating paper capable of providing a coated film on the paper surface with hardly any properties of elution into water.
CONSTITUTION: The objective starch composition for coating paper is obtained by gelatinizing starches composed of two or more kinds having a high-viscosity one and a low-viscosity one in preparing the starch composition for coating the paper and is used as a binder for coating the paper. The part of the high- viscosity starch is capable of improving the surface strength of the paper and paper strength due to its high film strength and forming a film with hardly any properties of elution into water applied to paper in offset printing. The part of the low-viscosity starch is capable of reducing and stabilizing the viscosity of the whole starch composition and simultaneously not only exhibiting good permeability into the paper but also improving the affinity for various fillers and performance of the coated surface as a binder as a whole.
