To provide a start assist device for an engine capable of surely starting the engine.
An annular heating sleeve 11 is disposed coaxially with an intake port 21 at a part between an intake valve 4 and an injection hole 31 of an injector 3 in the intake port 21. Alternating voltage is applied on a coil 12 wound around an outer circumference of the heating sleeve 11 by a controller 7. Induced current flows in the heating sleeve 11 by change of a magnetic field formed by the coil 12, and temperature of the heating sleeve 11 is raised by Joule heat generated at that time. Temperature of the heating sleeve 11 can be raised right after start of electricity supply to the coil 12 by such an induction heating method, and time required for heating fuel to prescribed temperature can be greatly shortened as compared with a former intake heater and the like. Consequently, fuel temperature and intake air temperature can be increased in a short period of time.
