Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ventilation passage for starter capable of preventing the interruption by adhesion of grease and suppressing the diffusion of brush powder.
SOLUTION: This starter comprises a communicating passage 27 allowing a motor chamber 25 to communicate with a switch chamber 26 to constitute a part of the ventilation passage. The communicating passage 27 is formed of recessed spaces 28 and 29 of a front housing 4 and a center housing 5 formed in the fitting surface between the both, a motor-side ventilation hole 30 allowing the recessed spaces 28 and 29 to communicate with the motor chamber 25, a connecting chamber 31 formed on the side of a gear chamber 3 for housing a reduction gear mechanism and communicating with the upper recessed space 28 of the front housing 4, and a switch-side ventilation hole 32 allowing the connecting chamber 31 to communicate with the switch chamber 26, and the communication passage 27 is provided bypassing the gear chamber 3 sideward. The recessed spaces 28 and 29 of both the housings 4 and 5 are provided in alternately shifted positions in the partially overlapped state to each other to constitute a labyrinth structure.
