PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set a loom to a prescribed waiting state in the period for operation without threading so that a required treatment for a weft at a length-measuring part and storing part may be restarted at once to prepare for the finishing of the period for the operation without threading.
SOLUTION: This starting method is the one for a loom 1 having a length-measuring and storing device 2 having a length-measuring part 7 for sending out a weft yarn 6 by bringing the weft yarn into contact with a pair of rollers 4, 5 synchronously rotating with a main shaft 3 of the loom 1, and a storing part 9 for storing the weft yarn 6 sent out from the length-measuring part 1 until the weft yarn 6 sent-out from the length-measuring part is inserted by the rotary motion of movable parts 8 and 39. When the loom 1 is started, the weft yarn 6 is kept so as not to contact with the roller 4 at the length-measuring part 7 rotating according to the rotation of a main shaft 3 to stop the sending out of the weft yarn 6 and to stop the storing of the weft yarn 6 while keeping the rotary motion of the movable parts 8, 39 of the storing part 9 in a step for beating without inserting the weft yarns for several picks just after the starting, and starting the insertion after passing the period of the operation without threading, and the length-measuring and storing device 2 is set to a waiting state by adding an adequate tension to the weft yarn 6.
