To provide a determination method restricting to work operation extremely near an optical fiber connection part, dispensing with cutting/end face shaping of the optical fiber, and having greatly improved measurement accuracy of a loss at the optical fiber connection part or the like compared with a conventional method.
Light is allowed to enter the optical fiber 1 from a light source 5 connected to one end of the optical fiber 1, and light propagating along a part other than the core of the optical fiber 1 in light propagating along the optical fiber 1 is leaked by a bent part 21 installed on the downstream side of an irregular part 20 of the optical fiber such as the optical fiber connection part. The leakage light is received by a light receiving element 8 and optical power is measured, and a loss at the irregular part 20 is evaluated/determined from the optical power of the leakage light.
