To provide a static pressure journal bearing easily obtaining characteristics in which the rigidity of a rotation shaft is nearly infinite when a force acting on the rotation shaft is small even if a dimensional error between the rotation shaft and a bearing body is large.
An inner circumferential surface 41 of a bearing body 4 and an outer circumferential surface 51 of a rotation shaft 5 have a predetermined clearance t1. On the inner circumferential surface 41, static pressure pockets 42 and 43 are orthogonally disposed. In a position opposing the static pressure pockets 42 and 43, pressing pockets 44 and 45 are disposed. To the pressing pockets 44 and 45, a fluid with desired pressure is supplied by a pressure control valve 10. To the respective static pressure pockets 42 and 43, the fluid is supplied via an adjustable diaphragm 45.
