Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out cord twisting in a single process by specifying a carbon content in carbon steel, the number of filaments in a strand layer, a twisting period of a core layer and the strand layer, and filament tensile strength within specific ranges.
SOLUTION: A carbon content in carbon steel is 0.70-0.94 wt.%, and brass gilding is applied on a filament surface for improving adhesiveness with rubber. A core layer 1 is formed by twisting two filaments 1a, while a strand layer 2 is formed by twisting five filaments 2a. In the core layer 1 and the strand layer 2, twisting is carried out at the same period ranging from 10 to 22 mm in the same twisting direction, and filament tensile strength just before twisting into a steel cord is set to be 260-385 kgf/mm2. In this way, the twisting direction and the twisting period of the core layer 1 are equalized to those of the strand layer 2, so that contact with a core strand becomes linear contact completely.
