Abstract:
To provide a steel member having high bearing stress fatigue strength, and a method of producing the same.SOLUTION: A steel member 10 has a surface layer 2, and a first martensite layer 4 that is disposed under the surface layer 2 and has a nitrogen element concentration of 0.2-1.0 mass%. The surface layer 2 contains at least one of lithium-iron complex oxide, FeO, and FeOas the main component and further contains at least one selected from the group consisting of solid-soluble silicon, silicon oxide, and silicon nitride. The first martensite layer 4 has a γ phase 15 with an area ratio of 30% or less and a ε phase 17 with an area ratio of 10% or less. The surface of nitrided steel is coated with a denitrification inhibitor and is then subjected to high frequency heating, to produce the steel member.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
