To prevent the weight of the upper part of a steel pipe and the weight of a steel pipe cutting device from being applied to a cutting part to eliminate the suspension of the upper part of the steel pipe by a crane in cutting the steel pipe driven in a soil or water as a pile or a steel pile by the steel pipe cutting device.

An upper gripper 12 and a lower gripper 13 are provided on the upper and lower sides of a drive part 11 of a steel pipe cutting device 10, and a cutting mechanism 14 is provided on the outer peripheral side of the drive part 11 between both grippers 12 and 13. The steel pipe cutting device 10 is inserted into a steel pipe 21 driven into soil or water, and the higher side of the steel pipe 21 from a cutting part is held by the upper gripper 12 and the lower side of the steel pipe from the cutting part is held by the lower gripper 13. Thus, the weight of the upper part of the steel pipe 21 and the weight of the steel pipe cutting device 10 do not apply to the cutting part 21a and, at the cutting of the steel pipe, a clearance is the cutting part is not reduced. In addition, because the upper part of the steel pipe 21 over the cutting part is held by the upper gripper 12 at a specified position, the necessity to suspend the upper part of the steel pipe 21 from a crane is eliminated.
