To provide a steel pipe pile which can improve workability by increasing penetration performance while securing straight advancement during penetration, and a method of constructing a steel pipe pile.
A tip back surface part 5 is formed at the rear side in the excavation direction with respect to a blade tip edge 3A, and when a steel pipe pile 1 is rotated and pressed into the ground, the tip back surface part 5 resists the rotation moment around the blade tip edge 3A. As a result, core shift of the steel pipe pile 1 is prevented, and the steel pipe pile 1 is penetrated into the ground while securing straight advancement. An inclined opening 4 is formed at the front side in the excavation direction with respect to the blade tip edge 3A, excavated soil generated by the rotating and pressing into the ground is smoothly taken into a steel pipe body 2 from the inclined opening 4, and the soil taken into the steel pipe body 2 is pushed upward while suppressing the ground resistance due to excavation, thereby reducing an increase in penetration resistance due to clogging of the inside of a pipe.
